Fashionopolis.. Behind the Scenes

The recent Fashionopolis event in Melbourne gathered circa 100 fashion bloggers from around Australia – the biggest conference/meet-up of its kind. Hats off to organisers Nuff Nang and Lady Melbourne! As well as asking Kyra in as a guest speaker on the day, we were also engaged to do the event styling.

The venue was a vast old warehouse known as 1000£ Bend. Phoebe’s (Lady Melbourne) brief was that it be fresh and pretty, but definitely not ‘wedding reception-ish’. Of course.

The solution was to source weathered trestle tables and lime-washed bentwood chairs to create and storybook school-room feeling. We called upon the masters of florsitry Domain Flowers to create table centres of succulents in white-washed terracotta, jars of tulip bulbs and mossy nests with tiny speckled eggs.

The eggs were a symbol of the social media ideas and Twitter conversations the day would inspire, and a metaphor for the digital media of the future that has not yet hatched.

The stage design featured giant hand-made nests with inky emu eggs, terrariums, playful balloons and whimsical ephemera by Domain Flowers. As a finishing flourish a giant, plush bed took over the stage; a nod to the great fashion photographer Tim Walker, and of course  visual pun that all bloggers allegedly work from bed.

We are now in the planing stages for another big event at the same venue, so we have taken time to go back through the instagrams from Fashionopolis. We cant wait to transform that fantastic space once again.
